FAQs Annie Sloan Soft Wax

annie sloan soft wax

Q.I’m thinking of painting a baby crib, is it safe to use Chalk Paint® decorative paint and Soft Wax?

A. Absolutely! Both are perfectly safe to use on furniture for child use. Be aware however, that the wax should be given about 4 weeks to fully cure.

Q.My kids are really hard on the furniture in my home. What should I use for a durable finish that will stand up to frequent cleaning?

A. Once hardened and cured, Annie Sloan Soft Wax offers a durable finish that is easily maintained. Simply apply your coats of Chalk Paint®, allow drying, and then apply 2-3 coats of Soft Wax allowing 24 hours for each coat of wax to dry.

Q.Can I apply Soft Wax to outdoors projects?

A. Annie Sloan Soft Wax is suitable for interior use only. Do not use on outdoor projects.

Q.What is the most effective method for applying Soft Wax?

A. The most effective method for applying Annie Sloan Soft Wax is to use an Annie Sloan Wax Brush. Apply the wax with the brush in one hand and wipe off excess wax with a dry rag in your other hand.

Q.How long does Soft Wax take to fully harden and cure?

A. You will need to allow 4-6 weeks for Annie Sloan Soft Wax to harden and cure. This is because the wax is made with chemical solvents that need to evaporate completely before the surface is hardened. Warm, dry climate conditions are ideal for the curing process.

Q.Can I apply any other protective material such as lacquer or polyurethane over Soft Wax?

A. Never apply any other finishing product over Annie Sloan Soft Wax. Adding another finishing product will not yield any additional protection and could actually have a negative effect on the finish.

Q.What is the best way to care for the finish once it’s cured?

A.It is best to allow the new finish on your furniture to harden and cure for a minimum of 30 days before placing items on them to avoid scratching the surface. Avoid moisture and use coasters under glass. Also use placemats for plates on dining tables. You can clean the finish with a semi-damp cloth and mild soap. Make sure to avoid liquid furniture polishes and be aware that if you need to clean with a stronger cleaner than mild soap, you may have to re-wax the area.

Q.How should I clean my brush if I’ve used it to apply Soft Wax?

A.Simply clean your brush with warm water and liquid dish soap. Dry the bristles as best you can with a rag and allow to air dry. Never let your brushes soak in water.
